People first petitioned Meade County and the State of South Dakota to complete 131st Avenue from Highway 34 to I-90 more than 3 decades ago. 
 
The Commissioners finally voted in September, 2009 to complete the remaining section line highway (less than two miles remain unimproved) and to have the road completed in the spring of 2010.

There are a few but vocal and ardent opponents who continue to attempt to derail the Commission’s decision to make this relatively minor but hugely significant improvement to the County’s highway system.  Their opposition has resulted in the Commissioners revisiting their decision, which is now on the agenda for 10:30 a.m. on February 3, 2010.
